Objective

To conceptualize a print ad for the Santa Maria Business and Visitor Guide in collaboration with the client, focusing on innovative ideas to communicate the airport’s role as a vital economic and cultural partner.

The Process

This project involved collaborating closely with the client and creative director to create a unique print ad that highlighted the airport’s role as a vital community partner. Moving away from traditional ad formats, the team developed an infographic-based design that combined visual appeal with meaningful content. By focusing on the airport’s history and community impact, the ad went beyond standard promotion. Its flexibility allowed for adaptation across multiple publications, showcasing the airport’s growth and resilience in a compelling and innovative way.

  • The process for creating this print ad began with close collaboration between the client, the creative director, and the design team. The initial goal was to conceptualize ideas that would effectively highlight the airport’s commitment to the community. After brainstorming, the tagline “Still Climbing, as a Vital Economic Partner in Our Community” emerged as the foundation of the message.
  • The true challenge lay in determining how to visually showcase this message. Traditional ads for the airport often relied on photographs and straightforward layouts, which felt typical and lacked a unique draw. To break away from this norm, the team decided to introduce an infographic-based design. The infographic approach allowed for scalability and the ability to present a visually engaging design that conveyed meaningful information about the airport.
  • Deciding what to include in the infographic posed its own challenges. Questions arose: What details are most important? Should we focus on standard promotional copy? The team opted for a fresh direction—sharing the airport’s history and its vital role in the community. This approach turned the ad into more than just a promotional piece; it became a narrative that informed and connected with the audience.
  • The execution phase was particularly rewarding. The flexibility of the infographic design made it adaptable for various publications, allowing parts and variations to be switched out seamlessly to suit different audiences and contexts. The final ad not only stood out but also effectively communicated the airport’s significance as an economic and cultural cornerstone in the region.
